Africa’s environment is threatened as populations and land usage expand throughout the continent. Environmentalists should be demanding better governance. Where corruption is rife, property rights are violated and human rights count for little, the environment stands little chance. Good government management deserves to be promoted not just because it favors economic growth and improves living conditions—it also contributes to a natural environment that is cleaner and better protected.
